Chinese New Year comes with the tradition of giving ang bao (red envelopes) to young children. When I was younger, I’ve not thought about the meaning of it, but really look forward to receiving them (don’t we all?).
I remember in the past when I received it, once I opened it, I would keep the money in my piggy bank and then I would give my mum the empty red packets so she can reuse them to give to other young children. However, there will also be some that are so worn out that it’s unusable.
Why I designed this product
Every year, we have to buy more red packets to replenish and make sure we give young children red packets that are clean and usable. While it may be relatively affordable, it is quite a hassle to keep buying more and replenishing.
So I thought of designing a 3d printed ang bao that is sustainable. Something more premium that you would give to your grandparents, which will then be passed down within the family ie. recyclable.
Designing it was more challenging than I anticipated. It looks simple for sure, but the tricky part was designing the catch so the lid doesn’t fall out so easily. Credits to my husband for inputs on the threshold for the catch!

How to use the Ang Bao
You can simply slide the face down to reveal the space where you can put your note. It is design to be easy to slide after applying a little bit of pressure.
Once opened, you can place your note(s) in, then slide it back to close it.
It should not be easily opened because of the catch.
3 Unique Designs for Year of the Snake
After spending time on 3 unique designs… here they are!

The year can be amended to any other coming years. Once the design is up, text is easy to update!

One for the year of the snake! Glad it’s simpler than say.. a dragon, which probably would be even more complicated.

Yes, I saved the best for last. I love this one! It’s very feminine and versatile. You can give this any year, even for weddings!
I am contemplating making one for Eid… We will see!

p.s. that is my first Pachira plant, and it has passed after 2 weeks unfortunately.
